What goes snap, crackle, pop, flicker, flicker, thump? If you are guessing a breakfast cereal you’re getting warmer. I was working on some electrical wiring yesterday and I found a neat new way to light up the room.
As it turns out, it’s probably not the best idea to cut through the entire electrical cable that is coming out of the wall. Or maybe just not all at once. It was just my luck that I chose to cut the only wire coming out of the wall that had electricity flowing to it.
There was an exciting few moments of arks and pops as my cutters exploded out of my hands and molten metal showered to the floor around me. Everything is okay though. I didn’t feel any of the electricity and the only causality is the cutters themselves.
My occasional mishap with electricity gives me pause sometimes. It’s really a shame that I don’t enjoy getting shocked, what with the number of times that I do it to myself. I can only imagine what my life is going to be like once I really start working on these systems at work. The high tension for these new microscopes usually starts flowing at 100 000 volts and can be as high as 300 000.
I cause enough damage with a couple hundred volts already…

A quandary appeared to me as I was coming home from work today: when on a cycle date (bike ride with an interested partner) should the gentleman ride in front or behind? With the growing trend of people enjoying staying in shape as well as dating this seems like a relevant discussion to consider.
An obvious choice for the modern gentleman might be to concede the lead to his cycling partner. It is often kind to allow your partner to set the direction and speed of the excursion.
Another option presents itself for the modern couple though. The sexual revolution has given women the freedom to lust over men just as any modern construction worker might. Knowing this, the gentleman could choose to ride in front in order to provide his accomplice with a better view of his posterior.
The solution does not come easily to me though. Perhaps it is time to send a letter to Dear Abby.

I got to try something new this weekend: surfing. It left me with a few choice words to describe the temperature of the Pacific ocean on the Oregon coast though.
Thank god for wet suits. If I go again I’ll definitely want gloves and a hood as well.
There were enough of us renting together that we qualified for a group discount. So, with the kind teaching of a friend’s research mentor, it all added up to a very pleasant day. The only real problem that we encountered was one of our friends got smacked in the mouth by her board and got a little cut up.
It’s tough to get back to work this week. There is always the weekend to look forward to now though. Which is a remarkably pleasant change from college.

Another one of Kyle’s cartoons went up this weekend. They crack me up, stay tuned there are more to come. If you guys haven’t checked them out yet, I put up an index to make the navigation easier. I’ve been trying to put a new comic up every week, but sometimes I’m a little lax with the schedule. Sorry for that.
I’m settling in to work. I haven’t needed my work muscle in several months now, so it’s taking some getting used to. But, every day I come home less tired than the day before. It’s possible that not long from now I’ll come home more rested than when I left.
Finally got my bike back from the repair shop. Bloody hell, it took long enough though. It’s terribly frustrating to be waiting 10 months to get back out to ride. But, it’s even worse when you finally get your bike and it take 3 weeks for the shop to do a simple tune up and battery charge. But it’s done, and now I know better than to take my bike to that shop again. One of the problems with motorcycles getting more popular is that local mechanics are getting overwhelmed by the business. Though, I suppose that’s not the end of the world.
