Despite my best intentions, I am back and I have added something new to the site. In the new fad of podcasting, I’ve added space for it on my site too… sort of. I’ve dug up a few old recordings and some new ones that I wanted to share and this seemed like a the right place.

Check out the new section. The link is on the right if you ever need it again.

I live. (For now)

If there is anyone out there that actually reads this site regularly, please forgive my continued absence. My final day of classes for the semester (indeed forever) is this Friday. That is to be soon followed by a grueling round of exams to accurately asses my worth as a student, possibly even as a human being.

In the true fashion of a college student I find myself spending as much time as I can doing as little as possible. In my defense I am not actually doing nothing. But, I must assume that my mind is preventing me from remembering the sheer magnitude of my endeavor out of some instinct for self preservation.

What I can remember from the last two weeks I’ll take a moment to comment on:

I was in the newspaper again.
Flunk Day was last Monday.
I upgraded the forums on the website.
I built a new website design for a class.
I did half a semester worth of course work in 18 hours.

Umm… perhaps that is all… but perhaps not. I seem to remember something else going on that was interesting too, but it eludes me. Oh well, perhaps next time.

I’m going to graduate if it kills me. It might be close.

Here are some pictures from flunk day.  I’ll write a post about the day sometime in the future.  It was a nice time, but a little different from the past.  I think it was a good change.

It so so beautiful outside today that my webcam can barely film it.  It’s just too bright.  I’ll leave this picture up until this evening when it gets dark out.  The picture should automatically upload every 5 minutes.  You’ll have to refresh the page to see the new picture.

Webcam out my window.

*the webcam is now off

It was definetly a nice day.  High of 86.  I love it.

“New” Truck Topper

I’ve been searching all over Iowa for a new topper for my truck.  More specifically a used topper.  The problem is that not many people are buying standard cab trucks anymore, so it’s very difficult to find used toppers that will fit them.  After a lot of phone calls I managed to track one down that wasn’t too far away and didn’t cost me too much.  I’m really happy with it too.  If you want to see, check out the pictures here.

Students angered by smoking ban

April 10, 2006 By Jesse Doerr @ 11:20 pm

With the new smoking policy going into effect on Coe’s campus in the next two years some students have been left in the cold. Derek McFran, widely recognized as the most attractive male on campus, has taken it upon himself to hold Student Senate accountable. “I just want to know where I’m going to be able to live next year.  I mean, I get told I’m smoking-hot all the time. If I’m not allowed in the dorms anymore, where will I go?” It is estimated that nearly 25% percent of the current student population will be affected by the new policy.

The local Habitat for Humanity group has been quick to respond to the nearing crisis. At a recent meeting President Ann Edaholm put it simply to the group. “We’ll do what we can for these students, but our cardboard box towns can’t hold them forever.” Conditions are expected to be desperate in the newly collected temporary housing. Edaholm summarized her position in an open letter to the Coe campus, “There is no way we can expect [these Beautiful People] to survive an Iowa winter without proper hair care facilities and mirrors.”

Admissions has been pushing in recent years to bring more attractive students to campus. According to sources on the recruiting board it is generally understood that it is “just too cold in Iowa. With a winter like ours, what do we expect our students to do when they can’t go outside? Study? Without this program we have no way to compete with schools in California and Florida for the nations top students.” The “hot-to-trot” campaign, as it has been nicknamed, faces serious jeopardy under the new smoking policies. “It’s just not possible to continue attracting the type of students that our campus needs with this kind of restriction.”

When reached for comment the Student Senate committee stood by their policy. The head of the committee responded “The new policy has been created for the health, safety, and well-being of our college’s students. Students had a chance to voice their opinion at the open forum that was held on the 4th floor of the library. Since no one attended, it was obvious to us that everyone supported the new policy.”

Though the restrictions of the new policy have already started to take effect, McFran vows to take the fight all the way to the top. “Smokers have rights too. We deserve access to dorms and buildings, even if we are smoking-hot.”
